Wine Spectator described Stéphane Ogier’s wines as “dynamic and elite”, while Wine Advocate wrote “the estate is unquestionably in the top handful of domaines in the Rhône Valley”. Stéphane took over from his father in the late 1990s, added extensively to the vineyards (he owns 10 hectares in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph) and built himself a gleaming, modern cellar. Terroir is his raison d’être. Grapes for Viognier de Rosine come from elevated, granite-soil vineyards bordering Côte-Rôtie, just north of Condrieu. Their terroir lends the wine its wonderful mineral elegance which balances the floral peach notes. Fermentation and lees ageing in seasoned oak for 60% of the wine brings a creamy plumpness, matched by the bright fruit.
Stéphane Ogier is one of the most exceptional northern Rhône winemakers, producing "a bevy of brilliant wines” said Wine Advocate. This pure Viognier is very much Condrieu in style from the granite soil of Collines Rhodaniennes next door to Côte-Rôte..
Sensory features: A barrel fermented Viognier from the La Rosine vineyard situated between Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. This is a beautiful, restrained version of this wonderful individual grape variety. It is medium-bodied with dramatic aromas of pineapple, apricot and citrus fruit. It has wonderfully refreshing acidity and is great drunk on its own or maybe with a plate of cold meats.
