Génésis is a highly regarded, modern red wine produced by Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet (run by Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet) in Limeray, within the Touraine-Amboise appellation of France's Loire Valley.
Sensory features: Bursting with vibrant aromas of cassis, blackberry liqueur, and violet, this unoaked Côt offers a remarkably juicy, rich mouthfeel with silky-fine tannins. It strikes a perfect balance between deep dark fruit concentration and a lightweight, energetic frame, wrapping up with a crisp, stony finish.
Technical notes
Grape variety: 100 Côt (Malbec)While the rest of the world knows this grape asMalbec, in the Loire Valley, it is traditionally calledCôt.Unlike the heavy, oak-aged Malbecs common in Argentina, Loire Côt tends to be much more vibrant, fresh, and terroir-driven.
Bonnigal and Bodet utilizeorganic and biodynamicfarming practices for their 20- to 30-year-old vines, which are planted in soils composed of flint clay and sand.
Terrior: Flint clay and sandstone
Ageing: 6 months on lees in stainless steel vats
Best served: Thanks to its crisp acidity and lack of wood tannins, Génésis doesn't need heavy steak to shine. It pairs beautifully with classic Iberian charcuterie, roasted duck, grilled pork, or surprisingly well with lighter fare like sea bream ceviche and sushi.
