The concentration and richness of a Sauternes wine
Sensory features:The 2022 Suduiraut reveals a deep, complex bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, caramel, spices and mango. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and mouth-coating, it’s long and fleshy with great depth at the core and a long, mineral, orchard fruits-inflected finish. Entirely crafted from Sémillon and matured for 18 months in barrels (70% were new barrels), this is a classic in the making and a superb Sauternes. This has 190 grams per liter of residual sugar.
Grape variety: 100% Sémillon
Estate: Château Suduiraut, a Sauternes AOC Premier Cru Classé in 1855, is a promised land of 92 hectares devoted to the vine. Adjacent to the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century property with gardens designed by André Le Nôtre.
Vineyard: Château Suduiraut 2022 is a Sauternes wine from a vineyard certified as High Environmental Value and planted on a sandy-clay soil. This very filtering and thin soil pushes the vine to draw deeply from its terroir, thus reinforcing its character in the wines. The vines are cultivated on a plot-by-plot basis according to the principles of sustainable agriculture.
Vintage: The winter began with cool and rainy conditions and was milder from February onwards. At the beginning of April, the vineyard was severely affected (around 40%) by a frost episode. A rapid flowering in May/June preceded a second half of June marked by a first wave of heatwave and then by a storm impacting between 5 and 30% of the vineyard. The hot, dry summer was punctuated by restorative rains in mid-August. Harvest took place between 20 September and 27 October in 3 selections. Despite low yields (7hl/ha), the grapes were rich and of great quality.
Winemaking & ageing: After precise vinification, the wine is aged for 16 to 20 months in barrels (70% of which are new and 30% one wine).
