A fresh and very rich Pessac-Léognan red wine
Sensory Features: A fascinating Malartic-Lagraviere from this hot vintage, but the wine is surprisingly fresh, showing depth, innate balance and complexity. The mineral-etched fruit turns glossy, with fine aromas of cassis, berries, plums, spices and a hint of violets. Almost full-bodied, with a complete package of fruit and chalky tannins. Long, juicy and posh. One of the best ever.
Grape Varieties: 53%Cabernet Sauvignon 43% Merlot, 2.5% Petit Verdot & 1,5% Cabernet Franc
Estate: Under the aegis of the Bonnie family, the progress of the majestic Château Malartic-Lagravière has been spectacular. This Graves Grand Cru Classé boasts an exceptional location, with a vineyard superbly situated on a gravelly hilltop. Equipped with state-of-the-art technical facilities, Château Malartic-Lagravière radiates throughout the appellation with white and red wines that stand out among the finest in Pessac-Léognan.
Vineyard: Château Malartic-Lagravière 2022 is a Pessac-Léognan wine from vineyards stretching across 73 hectares, 66 of which are planted with red grapes. The vines, which are 28 years old on average, are planted on dry gravel and clay soils. The subsoil is made up of shell limestone and veins of clay.
Vintage: 2022 was marked by extreme weather conditions, with spring frosts followed by drought and heatwaves in the summer. In the face of this, the estate’s knowledge of the terroir and the rigour of its teams made it possible to maintain the health of the vineyards.
Winemaking & Ageing: Hand-picked, the grapes were meticulously sorted before being precisely vinified on a plot-by-plot basis in small truncated wooden or stainless steel temperature-controlled vats. Vatting for 20 days. Early blending before ageing on fine lees in French oak barrels (60% of which were new).
