The richness and balance of an Haut-Médoc red wine
Sensory Features: A modern-day version of the lovely 1990, the 2022 La Lagune bursts with aromas of dark berries, cassis, licorice and violets. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a broad, sensual wine with velvety tannins and a suave, charming profile. With 13.8% alcohol, it remains classically proportioned, with a rather high pH of over 3.8 likely contributing to its open, giving style this year.
Grape Varieties: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot & 3% Petit Verdot
Estate: Magnificently situated on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château La Lagune is one of the finest examples of the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has put her talent to work to raise Château la Lagune to the top.
Vineyard: Château La Lagune 2022 is an Haut-Médoc wine produced from an 80-hectare vineyard planted on a gravelly hilltop. The vines, aged between 20 and 60 years, are cultivated using organic and biodynamic farming methods.
Vintage: A mild, dry winter was marked by frost at the beginning of April, which disrupted the vine's cycle without having a major impact on the vineyard. June was a particularly hot month, punctuated on 20 June by a storm accompanied by heavy rainfall and hail affecting 25% of the terroir.
Winemaking & Ageing: Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted three times by hand and optically in order to retain only the best quality grapes. Vinification by plot, with gentle extraction to enhance the wine's elegance. Aged in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, with several rackings. Final blending during ageing with wines from the best plots.
