The aromatic expression and freshness of a Barsac sweet wine
Sensory Features: Lots of dried-apricot and peach aromas with hints of dried white mushrooms and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, this has lots of sweetness but a spicy flint and citrus character with dried pineapple and white peaches. Extremely long and flavorful. Such a balance and classiness to this.
Grape Varieties: 94% Sémillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc & 1% Muscadelle
Estate: Château Coutet is located in the Barsac appellation in the Sauternes region. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, future president of the United States, considered that Château Coutet was the best Sauternes in Barsac. The word "Coutet" is derived from the Gascon word for knife. This word perfectly sums up the unique style of the estate's wines, which are sharp, lively and fresh.
Vineyard: Château Coutet 2022 is a Barsac wine that stems from a vineyard where the grape varieties are Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
Vintage: A cold winter preceded a mild spring, offset by a late frost episode at the beginning of April, which had no impact on the vineyard. The alternation of warm, dry conditions and rainy spells at the beginning of the vine's growth period favoured the constitution of water reserves, which limited water stress on the vines. The 2022 vintage will be remembered as one of the driest ever recorded, but also for its high summer heat, which resulted in low yields. The heavy rainfall at the end of September and beginning of October favoured the development of Botrytis. The harvest was carried out in four selections between 26 September and 28 October.
